Pair of P.P. Caproni and Brother, Boston, Bronzed Plaster Relief Plaques of Classical Lovers

ca. 1900, after John Flaxman,R.A. (British, 1755-1826), including "Cupid Awakening Psyche" and "Mercury Carrying Pandora to Epimetheus", the former from the famed story in the Metamorphoses (The Golden Ass) by the ancient prose writer Apuleius, the latter after the bas-relief conserved at Sir John Soane's Museum, London, England, with mounts for display.
28" x 32-1/2" and 29" x 32-3/8", respectively

Provenance: By repute, salvaged from the restoration of an opera house; Private collection.

Notes: Both illustrated in the 1913 P.P. Caproni and Brother catalogue under "Modern Reliefs after John Flaxman", as numbers 10003 and 10004.
