3 Gerald Ford Signed 200th Anniversary U.S. Flag Booklets, "The New Constellation: Yorktown to Outer Space"
Signed Booklet

Three first-edition softcover copies of the booklet, "The New Constellation: The Story of America as told through its flags - which are the symbols of its civil, economic, and religious freedoms" (Pittsburgh: National Flag Foundation, 1977), each signed by sitting 38th U.S. President Gerald Ford (1913-2006) in blue felt tip marker on the front cover. Two of Ford's signatures appear as "Gerald Ford" while the third is signed as "Gerald R. Ford." N.d., n.p. Stated "Premier Edition" on the inside of each front cover. The booklet provides a historical overview of the succession of flags, standards, and banners flown in America from the age of colonization to the present day. With 26 color plates depicting historical scenes by artist Don Hewitt. 32pp. Light surface wear. One booklet has a few scuffs on the back cover near the binding, and the other two booklets have minor corner wrinkling in the upper right corners. Else near fine. Each booklet measures approximately 8.5" x 5.5" x .25."

The booklet provides a "birthday salute to our national banner" (p. 3). It was published by the National Flag Foundation as the United States approached the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Flag in June 1977. On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress had determined the official design of the U.S. Flag: 13 white and red alternating stripes, with 13 white stars against a blue background. "The New Constellation" from the booklet title is a quote from this 1777 congressional resolution; "the new constellation" refers literally to the visual appearance of the 13 stars, while referring figuratively to the Founders' new experiment in democracy.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
