3 Japanese Celluloid Football Dolls

A set of three early 20th-century Japanese football player dolls. Each doll features a molded and painted celluloid head and hands attached to a stuffed cloth body. The figures are dressed in period-style football uniforms consisting of jerseys, padded pants, and socks. Each player carries a small, molded brown football under one arm. Two players are wearing navy blue jerseys with cream-colored pants and navy blue socks; the third player is dressed in a gray jersey with cream-colored pants and gray socks. Two dolls retain their original fabric hanging loops at the top of their heads. The dolls feature varied head designs, including molded helmets with textured surfaces and molded hair with headbands. The gray-jersey doll bears the word JAPAN embossed on the back of the head, accompanied by a small circular mark containing an illegible character. The blue-jersey dolls feature the word JAPAN stamped in black ink on the back of the neck. Each doll stands approximately 7.5 to 8 inches in height.
