3 Large North American Quartz Geodes

[ translate ]

North America, United States, ca. millions of years ago. A wonderful trio of natural quartzite geodes, the largest is split open on one end to show the interior and the other two pieces are halves from a geode split down the middle. The larger displays like a cave, the interior druse is lined with white and semitransparent crystalline structures across the entire surface! The other geode halves are similar and contain 2 separate druse pockets inside. Geodes are formed in volcanic rocks when gas bubbles create pockets for the druse to form, or sedimentary rocks such as limestone where voids in the rock have formed due to decaying organic material or gas bubbles. Fluids containing minerals, such as silica in quartz, are deposited inside these pockets which slowly turn into stunning druse crystals or other mineral formations. The exterior rock surrounding the druse is usually ordinary and plain - but when split open, the remarkable crystals are revealed! Size (large cave geode): 7" L x 7" W x 6.5" H (17.8 cm x 17.8 cm x 16.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.

Display stands not described as included/custom in the item description are for photography purposes only and will not be included with the item upon shipping.

#168954
Condition Report: Stable fissures on the exterior of the geode that is split in half - both halves fit together and are matching halves. A few crystal structures have broken off from the splitting process on all 3 specimens but do not affect overall presentation. All 3 are excellent with a nice druse covering.
