3 Large Viking Iron Farming Tools

[ translate ]

Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. A fine set of 3 forged-iron farming tools including a spade and a pair of hoes. Each hoe has a pair of curved flanges meant for fitting tightly around a wooden handle as well as a triangular blade for piercing or tilling the hard earth. The largest tool is a spade bearing a gently curved, semicircular head meant to act as a less-invasive shovel, perhaps for uprooting certain crops. Each tool exhibits thick layers of patina that imbue them with an intriguing presentation. Size of largest: 7.9" L x 7.75" W (20.1 cm x 19.7 cm)

Provenance: ex-Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.

Display stands not described as included/custom in the item description are for photography purposes only and will not be included with the item upon shipping.

#159906
Condition Report: Each tool has chips, encrustations, and nicks commensurate with age and use, with pitting and heavy oxidation, otherwise very good. Nice patina throughout.
