3 photos taken during exterior filming 1940s-noir.
1942 Cadillac “Series 67” sedan; a car-chase camera rig; and another
[attributed to Joseph L. SASSO, jr. (photographer)]. – CADILLAC. A small collection of three photographs, candid shots taken apparently during the filming of exterior scenes in a North-Eastern city – possibly New York. [No place, poss. NYC: no date, but 1940s]. Small format images (3 ½ x 4 ½ inches), on large full-gloss paper (8 1/8 x 10 inches). Condition: print area excellent, but with some marginal toning.
Provenance: probably the Sasso family
One or maybe two of the images appear to feature a 1942 Cadillac "Series 67" touring sedan, for five passengers, style #6719. The third image is of a van with a movie camera strapped to the front – apparently prepared for the filming of a car chase !
The nighttime ‘portrait’ of the Cadillac features a branch of Horn & Hardart and an elevated rail line in the background – Horn & Hardart’s ‘Automats’ were almost ubiquitous in New York and Philadelphia by the end of the ‘40s.
