3 pieces Natchez, Mississippi Coin Silver Flatware
1st item: Rare and early Natchez, Mississippi spoon with elongated bowl and fiddle handle with oval-shaped end, monogrammed "B". Marked on reverse R. Haughton in script in a rectangle (Robert Haughton, active Natchez 1819-1829). 5 7/8" L. 0.54 oz troy. Note: Haughton was one of Natchez's earliest silversmiths. ART IN MISSISSIPPI by Patti Carr Black, published 1998, noted at that time there were only two known examples of Haughton's work, both ladles, addl. Ref. NINETEENTH-CENTURY NATCHEZ-MADE SILVER. Only a handful of other examples have surfaced since that time. 2nd item: Dessert spoon marked S. COCKRELL in a rectangle for Samuel Cockrell (b. Virginia, 1808, moved to Natchez, 1838) together with hallmarks. 7" L. 0.875 troy ounces. 3rd item: Fiddle thread fork with incuse marks "S. Cockrell" for Samuel Cockrell (b. Virginia, 1808, moved to Natchez, 1838). 7 1/2" L. 1.910 troy ounces. 3.325 combined troy ounces.
Condition Report: 1st item: Fork with wear to tines, light surface scratching. 2nd item: Minor pitting to bowl, light surface wear. 3rd item: Heavy pitting to bowl, light surface wear. All with script monograms.
