38 Fine Celtic Bronze Belt Segments
Central Europe, Celtic people, ca. 1st century BCE to 200 CE. This is an interesting collection of 38 individual segments cast from bronze each featuring domed, hemispherical pieces, conjoined into sets of three, with integral loops on the verso. The suspension loop facilitated a leather strap or cord to pass through each piece, and together these bronze pieces made up a Celtic warrior's belt. These pieces could have functioned as belt stiffeners and ornaments, and may have been buried with the deceased owner, as each is covered in a fine layer of green patina and mineral deposits. Celtic warriors were frequently buried with such belt sets as well as long spears, deliberately bent swords, and other items that had been ritually destroyed before being placed into the grave with cremated remains. For bronze to survive in such nice condition is remarkable! Size: 1.75" L x 0.65" W (4.4 cm x 1.7 cm)

Condition Report: Most are intact and very good with a small perforation through one and loss to the periphery of another. Bending, indentations, and surface abrasions. All have earthen and mineral deposits and encrustations with heavy green patina underneath.
