4 Carved Boxwood Netsuke
Height: 1 to 1.25 inches (approximately 2.5 to 3.2 cm). A group of four Japanese toggles, or netsuke, carved from boxwood. The figures are rendered in seated or recumbent poses, featuring a deep, honey-colored patina and heavy staining in the recessed areas to emphasize the carving detail. The group consists of a recumbent man leaning on his arm, a seated man with a topknot working at a table, a seated man with a Noh mask, and a hunched figure holding a bowl. Each figure is pierced with two himotoshi cord holes on the reverse or base. The back of the garment on the seated figure with the topknot features small incised square decorative motifs. No legible artist signatures are visible on the pieces.
