4 Colima Pottery Standing Figures

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A lovely ensemble of 4 redware figures - 3 male and 1 female - all depicted with flattened forms, standing, and dressed in unusual types of loincloths with rear flaps in the back extending partially between their legs. Each of their traditionally elongated heads are crowned by slender headbands with central pendants. Two additionally wear collared necklaces, while another is adorned with a tasseled belt. Size of each (all are relatively similar): 4.4" W x 5.9" H (11.2 cm x 15 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Arte Primitivo, New York, New York, USA, May 24, 2017, Lot 488; ex-private Nevada, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s

Condition Report: Two have been repaired with break lines visible. One has loss to left side of headband. Chipping to noses of 3. All have light surface wear, commensurate with age. Otherwise, 2 are intact and all are excellent with nice manganese deposits.
