4 Sterling Silver Holloware Items, incl. Frank W. Smith

Four (4) sterling silver table serving items, including one (1) Frank W. Smith round modernist vegetable bowl having a stepped base; one (1) Baker-Manchester oval bowl having a scalloped rim and faceted body; one (1) Birks oval tray with a reticulated rim and four ball feet, monogrammed with script "RLH"; and one (1) Lunt round serving tray. Maker's marks, Sterling, numerals stamped to underside of bases. Ranging in size from 5/8" H x 9 3/4" dia. to 2 3/8" H x 9 1/4" dia. Combined weight: 36.365 total troy ounces. 20th century. Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. Many items in the collection were brought back as souvenirs from that journey and other frequent voyages.
