40 pieces assorted American sterling silver and silver by international makers, including: 1 Tiffany and Company "oil can" vermouth dropper; 12 Watson Sterling oval nut dishes with reticulated borders; 5 salts, including 2 by S. Kirk and Son, Inc., 2 Birks, and 1 Richard Dimes Company; 3 toothpick holders with gadrooned border to rims, including 1 National and 2 matching by an unidentified maker; 3 tea strainers, including 2 Watrous and 1 Paye and Baker; 3 pairs of sugar tongs, including 1 Alvin Nuremburg pattern; 1 Towle napkin ring; and 8 assorted salt spoons, including 1 Gorham and 1 Florida souvenir spoon. All items marked or tested Sterling. Also includes 2 Persian silver salts marked "84" with gilt wash to interiors and 2 German .800 silver salt spoons. Ranging in size from 1 7/8" to 5 1/2" L. Combined sterling weight: 21.980 total troy ounces. Combined weight 84 silver: 2.975 total troy ounces. Combined weight .800 silver: .185 total troy ounces. Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. Many items in the collection were brought back as souvenirs from that journey and other frequent voyages.
