Ornate Caucasian Miquelet Rifle Dated 1831. Great features throughout, this 28-inch octagonal watered steel barrel with swamped muzzle, integral rear sight and multiple groove [8] rifling. Approximately .47 caliber. Miquelet lock of typical form, the cock, bridle and pan cover deeply chased with scrollwork. The lockplate is lightly chased with scrollwork on a beaded ground. Three broad silver capucines chased with bands of scrolling florals. Fruitwood stock with typical two-part fore-end and set with numerous shaped bone plaques and bone wedge escutcheons surrounded by clusters of brass and enamel roundels. Narrow butt of oval section with wooden cap secured by a silver buttplate and long, shaped bars deeply chased with scrollwork and hallmarked in two places HA, 84 and with the date 1831. The overall length is 43 1/2-inches. Condition: Very good as configured and shown. The barrel is showing age wear and some minor spots of pitting and handling wear. The lock with some pitting.
