Engraved U.S. Springfield Officer's Model Type I 1873 Trapdoor Breechloading Rifle. Unserialized, .45-70 caliber, 26-inch barrel with folding front sight and adjustable rear sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Upper tang peep sight. Elaborately scroll engraved hammer, lock, upper tang, breech, buttplate and fore-end cap. Lock marked: (eagle) and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / 1873. V / P / (eagle) proof marks to left side of barrel. Checkered walnut straight stock with barrel band marked: U. Brass tipped wood ramrod. Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with scattered signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Scuffs and dings present to wood. Action good. Lightly pitted bore.
