Smith (Poultney & Trimble) Percussion Breech-Loading Civil War Saddle Ring Carbine. Serial no. 16418 [barrel and frame], .50 caliber, 21 1/2-inch octagonal and round barrel with folding rear ladder sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Left side of the receiver marked with MASS ARMS and POULTNEY & TRIMBLE addresses. Saddle ring and bar on the left side of the breech. Walnut stocks. Metal carbine buttplate. Condition: Good. Finish a brownish grey patina with noticeable areas of handling wear, age and surface rust. Front sight absent. Heavy scuffs, dings and bruising present to wood.
