Serial no. 11578 [barrel and receiver], .50 caliber, 21 1/2-inch octagonal and round barrel, with fixed front sight and rear ladder sight. Blued finish and case-hardened finish. Left side of the receiver marked: SMITH'S PATENT / JUNE 23, 1857 and ADDRESS / POULTNEY & TRIMBLE / BALTIMORE U.S.A. Saddle ring. L.F.R. stamped to left side of barrel. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Two cartouches to left side of stock. Metal carbine butt. Condition: Very good. Retaining approximately 50-60% finish with scattered signs of handling wear, age, thin spot at muzzle and fine patches of pitting. Vibrant case colors remaining. Action crisp. Bright bore.
