Two-Trigger Frank Wesson Single Shot Rifle I.D.'d to Medal of Honor [MOH] Winner. Unserialized, .22 caliber, 24-inch barrel with faint manufacturer markings and rear sight. Dual triggers. Blued finish. Smooth hardwood straight stock stamped: M. M. HASKELL / CO. C MASS INF. Crescent metal buttplate. Sold along with a cased sixth-plate tintype of a Union private holding a similar rifle. Condition: Good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with noticeable areas of handling wear, age and surface rust. Front and rear peep sight absent, rear barrel sight needs repair. Heavy scuffs, dings and bruising present to wood. Action needs adjustment. Moderately pitted bore. Marcus M. Haskell (1843-1925) was a pressman from Chelsea, Massachusetts. On August 18, 1862, he mustered into Company C, 25th Regiment, Massachusetts Infantry. He was wounded six different times between 1862 and 1865, at the Battles of Antietam, Fredericksburg, North Anna River, Weldon Railroad, Poplar Springs Church and Petersburg. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for action on September 17, 1862, at Antietam, Maryland, rescuing a badly wounded comrade while under heavy enemy fire.
