Elias Boudinot Autograph Letter Signed "Elias Boudinot." Three pages of a bifolium, 7.5" x 9", Elizabethtown; January 11, 1784. Addressed to Jacob Reed Esq., the letter expresses Boudinot's disappointment in recent proceedings in Congress. The letter reads in part: "...I feel myself so deeply interested in the Honor & Welfare of Congress, that I have suffered not a little, at their loss of reputation by so unsteady a measure, as the appointment of two Places of residence – indeed I think it the only important determination of Congress, that can justly be charged with weakness. I hope & pray that your conduct now you are there will be strongly marked with the traits of wisdom & judgement. Your respectful remembrances of us is very flattering and I do assure you, if ever your Lott should be cast this way, either as a Traveller or an honorable Member, it will give us great Pleasure to receive you at our Cottage..." With docketing on verso. Elias Boudinot (1740-1821) served as president of the Continental Congress from November 1782 until November 1783 and as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives until March 1795.
