William N.R. Beall Signed Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 4", a standing portrait in uniform, with a J. Gurney & Son, New York backstamp on verso. Signed on verso: "Regards of Wm NR Beall Bg: Gn: P.C.S.A. Arkansas." William Nelson Rector Beall (1825-1883) was a Confederate brigadier general who fought under Earl Van Dorn and P. G. T. Beauregard. He was captured following the surrender of Port Hudson, serving as a purchasing agent for supplies to benefit Confederate P.O.W.'s. He was finally released by the Federal government in August 1865, and moved to St. Louis, Missouri after the war. Condition: Light edge toning and light wear to the edges and corners.
