Duncan L. Clinch Autograph Letter Signed "D.L. Clinch." One page of a bifolium, 7.75" x 9.75", St. Mary's, Georgia; February 1, 1820. Addressed to Col. Robert Butler, Adjutant General regarding troops making their way to Head Quarters. It reads in full: "The detachment of the 4th & 7th Regt Inft stationed at Traders Hill having taken up their line of March for the Head Quarters of their respective Regiments. I have the honor to inform you that I have turned over the command of the E.S. 7th Dept to Major Jno. Bankhead, in pursuance to an order from Major Genl Gaines, that I shall leave this place in a few days, for the Head Quarters of the 8 Regt Inft." With docketing on verso. General Duncan Clinch, was a wealthy local who later became a Whig candidate for governor. He served as a commander during the First and Second Seminole Wars, and ultimately went on to represent Georgia in the House of Representatives.
