Robert Lewis Dabney Autograph Letter Signed "R. L. Dabney." One page, 7.75" x 6", Headquarters, Johnston’s Division, [Virginia?]; May 22, 1862. In this letter to Confederate Colonel Turner Ashby, Dabney, chief of staff to General Stonewall Jackson, writes, "Maj. Genrl. Jackson thanking you for the information you have sent directs that you will move your Cavalry at such an hour to morrow morning as to go within eight miles of Front Royal by dawn if this be practicable. The advanced infantry is now at that point and the General desires that the Cavalry be in its front." Dabney (1820-1898) was a Confederate chaplain, architect, and biographer of Stonewall Jackson.
