Régis de Trobriand Signed Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 4", a standing portrait in his uniform and great coat, with a Brady, New York backstamp on verso. Signed below the image: "R. de Trobriand Col. Com Brig." Régis de Trobriand (1816-1897) was a French novelist who emigrated to the U.S. on a dare at the age of 25. Soon after the start of the Civil War, Trobriand became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. and gained command of the 55th New York Volunteer Infantry. He saw action at Gettysburg, where his brigade was positioned in the Wheatfield. He also participated at engagements during the Petersburg Campaign, and the Appomattox Campaign.
