5 Roman / Byzantine Glass Bracelets - Blue & Silver

[ translate ]

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE; Near East, Holy Land, Byzantine, ca. 8th to 10th century CE. A simply stunning set of 5 glass bracelets, 2 Roman and 3 Byzantine, all boasting hues of navy, cobalt, turquoise, indigo, silver and white. First, the Roman bracelets are each comprised of tubular bands in shades of blue and silver glass twisted together to form a mesmerizing pattern. Alternatively, the 3 Byzantine bracelets present darker bodies with abstract painted designs in white and silver: 2 with an ovoid and quatrefoil pattern and the last with a zigzag and coiled motif. The bracelets with the ovoid pattern both display cylindrical bands, though one features a lovely, incised ring along its interior. The other bangle showcases a flattened interior and convex exterior. Note the splashes of shimmering iridescence that beautifully complements their elegant forms! Size (of largest, exterior): 3.3" W (8.4 cm); Size (of largest, interior): 2.75" W (7 cm); Size (of largest, thickness of band): 0.375" W (1 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection, acquired 1990s; ex-Stair Auctions

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
