5 Roman Leaded Bronze / Brass Erotic Quillons

[ translate ]

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful and intriguing set of 5 dagger quillons - cast from either leaded-bronze or leaded-brass - each with phallic protuberances emanating from one end. The leaded bronze artifacts consist of a flat quillon with a lengthy phallus and coral-red encrustations as well as a quillon with an abstract lion paw on one end and thick, raised lateral walls bearing lightly incised motifs on the exterior surfaces. The 3 remaining quillons are cast from leaded brass: a quillon with a feathered terminal and a phallus with a bifurcated tip, and two quillons with thin, raised walls, one with a squat phallus, and the other bearing a phallus with a baluster-form tip. All are covered in matte layers of brown, green, and russet patina. Size of largest (flat leaded bronze w/ coral-red color): 2.36" L x 0.7" W (6 cm x 1.8 cm)

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
