5 Viking / Medieval European Iron Knife Blades

Western to Northern Europe, Viking to Medieval Period, ca. 9th to 14th century CE. A fine collection of 5 iron knife blades with short tangs attached. All have a single cutting edge and a tapered, pointed tip. Four have riveting holes or rivets still partially attached for securing a wooden or bone grip to form a handle. One has an iron loop that articulates, attached to the tip of the tang. A heavy russet patina envelops the surface of each blade. All are approximately the same size. Size of largest: 5.75" L x 1.125" W (14.6 cm x 2.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000
