5th C. Korean Silla Pottery Cup + Handled Jar

East Asia, Korea, Silla Kingdom, ca. 5th to 6th century CE. A pair of delicate, thin-walled greyware cups of different forms, made to be placed into tombs holding offerings. One is thin, widening gradually to its mouth, standing on a delicate foot. The other is wider, with a pronounced shoulder, slightly flared mouth, and small vertical handle. Size: 5.25" W x 4" H (13.3 cm x 10.2 cm)

Provenance: Estate of William Stockton, Colorado, USA; acquired between July 20, 1966 and January 7, 1974 while Mr. Stockton was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. During this period he traveled primarily to Korea, but also to Japan, Vietnam, and other countries in Southeast Asia.
