(6) Beulah Brown a.k.a. Beulah Elizabeth Hazelrigg Brown, (American, 1892 – 1987), 20th century, watercolor on paper paintings, each depicting a floral bouquet including pansies, poppies, lilies, daffodils, and hibiscus flowers along with other flowers; each piece signed on the face by the artist.

Dimensions are: largest paper - 20 inches tall X 16 inches wide and the mat measures: 24 inches tall X 18 inches wide, and the smallest measures: 9 inches tall X 12 inches wide and the mat measures 13 inches tall X 15 inches wide. All measurements are approximate.

Artist Biography: Beulah Brown a.k.a. Beulah Elizabeth Hazelrigg Brown, (American, 1892 – 1987), was a painter, designer and teacher who lived and worked in Muncie, Indiana, along with her husband, the artist Francis F. Brown, whose work is also featured in this auction. Educated at the John Herron Art Institute, Beulah had an interest in fabric design and patterns, creating bold, abstract designs which pre-dated the Pattern and Decoration (P&D) movement of the 1970s. Her work is characterized by precisely rendered still-life and snowscape compositions as well as stylized and abstract designs.

Condition: Free of rips, tears, and repairs.

Provenance: Oakridge Auction Gallery has been entrusted to bring an archive of paintings by Francis Focer Brown (American, 1891–1971) and Beulah H. Brown (American, 1892–1987), a.k.a. Beulah Elizabeth Hazelrigg Brown, to market. This archive is believed to have been part of the personal collection of one of the artists and was recently discovered languishing in storage. This is the first time in this generation these pieces have been seen and offered publicly.
