6 Roman & Greek Pottery Oil Lamps of Diverse Forms

Greece, early Hellenistic Period, ca. 4th to 3rd century BCE; Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th centuries CE. An attractive ensemble of 6 pottery mold-made oil lamps, all presenting discoid bodies and extended spouts. Displaying hues of caramel, cream, taupe, and grey, these ancient vessels feature a wide array of styles, such as loop handle, volute, tabbed handle, recessed discus, sloped shoulder, and flat shoulder. They are additionally adorned with various motifs, including starburst, target, and zigzag. The 5 lamps with shoulders hanging over the interior cavities are of Roman origin, and the 1 lamp with an open design is from Hellenistic Greece. Size: 4.5" L x 2.75" W x 2" H (11.4 cm x 7 cm x 5.1 cm)

Condition Report: Repair to side of smallest with restoration over break lines. Losses to shoulder of lamp with target motif. Lamp with starburst motif has repairs to one side with break lines visible and losses to fill hole and spout. Lamp with globular body has repair to back side with restoration over break lines. All have nicks, chips, char marks, and abrasions, commensurate with age and use. Otherwise, all are nice with lovely earthen deposits.
