5 Sterling Silver Tablespoons 8 5/8" and 1 Cold Meat Serving Fork 8 1/8" in the 1928 Modern Colonial Pattern designed by Axel Staf and Made by Alvin/Gorham. No monograms. Approximate Silver Weight 340 grams. PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Estate. Axel Staf, who trained at a technical school in Stockholm in ornamental sculpture, was born in Ransater, Varmland. After studying in Germany, he immigrated to America in 1893, initially to visit the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. He worked for the Howard Sterling Company in Providence Rhode Island, then for the Gorham Manufacturing Company in Providence, designing silver. He later taught at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence.
