This is what Hungarian-born sculptor Etienne Beöthy wrote, like a profession of faith, on the occasion of the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles of 1947: "The tenuous, fluid signs more readily satisfy the pressing demands of primordial rhythms. Still free from their later servitudes, but already made visible, they are like condensations of the invisible. This is where so-called abstract art tries to settle. Here they constitute a kind of metaplastic that tries to suggest the essence. »
