Sleepless… is deceptive. Yoshitomo Nara’s mixed-media sculpture first appears small, even cute, but its restless expression soon unsettles. Nara shows a child wearing onesie pajamas and a light frown. His floppy ears should suggest innocence, but there’s something keeping him awake. Sleepless… combines Nara’s interest in manga, anime and punk rock, as well as his childhood a latchkey kid. HID03101242017
