Goodacre 1987 / AP/25 PROVENANCE: Private collection, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. "I love the Pueblo basket dance. It is the only ritual dance I know that honors just women, and their role in food gathering and preparation, symbolized by the baskets, the wood rattle and deer foot they hold. It's slow moving and dignified, their big dance baskets swishing around. I did my first study of it – I've done many since – in 1978 and entered it in the National Academy of Design Annual Exhibition. Not only was it accepted, but it won their gold medal!
