World House Galleries, New York, acquired from above, 1955; Sotheby Parke Bernet Inc., New York, January 20, 1973, lot 8; Toba Brill Winer, New York, acquired from the above; Private collection, United States, thence by descent. The Sotheby's catalogue referenced above states that according to Pola Gauguin, the artist's son, this sheet was part of an early sketchbook of thirty-three leaves, executed circa 1884. This drawing will be included in the forthcoming Gauguin Digital Catalogue Raisonné, currently being prepared under the sponsorship of the Wildenstein Plattner Institute, Inc.
