Ludwig Voltz (German, 1825-1911) After the hunt, circa 1870 Oil on panel 15-1/4 x 26 inches (38.7 x 66.0 cm) Signed, inscribed, and indistinctly dated lower right: Ludw. Voltz / München 7[...] PROVENANCE: Private collection, Germany; By descent to present owner. The German animal and landscape painter and illustrator Ludwig Gustav Voltz belonged to an artistic family from Augsburg. He attended the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich, and specialized in equestrian painting. He found patronage among the princes Thurn and Taxis and Wallerstein for whom he produced meticulous portraits of their horses. Later in his career he devoted himself to paintings of the hunt. Voltz was a member of the Munich Kunstverein, and participated in exhibitions from 1848 on in Vienna, and from 1854 in Munich. HID03101062020 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
Condition Report: Panel is stable, very slightly bowed. Paint film in very good condition. Under UV light were are minimal areas of inpaint to frame abrasion. A couple spots of inpaint are in the sky and one in the vegetation.
