School of Theodoor van Loon (Flemish, 1581-1649) The Adoration of the Shepherds, circa 1700 Oil on copper panel 25 x 15-1/4 inches (63.5 x 38.7 cm) PROVENANCE: Private collection, Dallas, Texas. The present work is a copy of an altarpiece attributed to Theodoor van Loon, a painting in the church of St. Laurentius in Wolvertem, Belgium. Van Loon painted several variations of this theme, a variant of which is in the church of St. Katelijne in Brussels, and a study for another variant is in the Louvre, Paris. Condition Report: One, 4 inch scuff mark, left of the center; Frame rubbing on the extreme top edge, noticeable out of frame; One, 1/4 inch loss in the lower left quadrant; Minor bend to the metal upper left corner, paint is slightly raised on the crease, Under UV exam; there appears to be one 3 inch line of inpaint on the extreme left corner; 2 inch area of inpaint in the upper right corner; Spots of inpaint on the extreme right edge; Three 4 inch lines of inpaint in the lower left corner, one line visible in raking light.
