71 pieces assorted sterling silver flatware, including 34 Whiting pieces (28 Lady Baltimore pattern, including 4 dinner knives, 11 fish forks, and 13 salad forks, and 6 Madam Jumel pattern round bowl bouillon soup spoons); 22 Towle pieces (6 Old Newbury-Newbury pattern large round bowl bullion soup spoons, 4 Clover pattern teaspoons, and 12 assorted teaspoons); 7 International Sedan pattern flat handle butter spreaders; 7 Wallace teaspoons, including 1 Engraved No. 1 pattern; and 1 Durgin teaspoon. Most pieces monogrammed or inscribed. Ranging in size from 5 1/2" to 8 3/4" L. Combined weight: 45.575 total weighable troy ounces. Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. Many items in the collection were brought back as souvenirs from that journey and other frequent voyages.
