E.J. Bellocq (American, 1873-1940) Storyville Portrait, circa 1912 Gelatin silver print, probably printed by Dan Leyrer, circa 1960 7-1x4 x 9-1x2 inches (18.4 x 24.1 cm) (image) 8 x 10 inches (sheet) Credited in ink, verso. Following Bellocq's passing in 1940, his collection of glass plate negatives was discovered in Sal Ruiz's antique store, which later ended up with Larry Borenstein. Upon Borenstein's request, Dan Leyrer, a photographer from New Orleans, produced a series of prints from these negatives in the early 1960s. LITERATURE: E. Condition Report: Overall good condition. Faint silver mirroring toward extreme edges of the sheet. scattered soft and hard creasing, most creases are localized to the margins, but some do extend into the image. Scattered surface scratching visible in raking light. Bumps to the corners. Sheet is hinged to a window mat and framed under acrylic measuring 14 x 16 inches.
