The complete collection of these drawings was exhibited only once at the Galeria del Club Israelita in Mexico City, from June 26 to July 12, 1973. "The drawings were made during Rufino Tamayo's stays in the city of Oaxaca, when he supervised the assembly work of his collection of Pre-Hispanic Art in the museum that he donated to his hometown. To make a sales strategy for this book, 100 were bound in leather and have a wooden box, and both the book and the box reproduced the original drawing that accompanied them. "The [drawings] were purchased by subscription, which is why the name of the person who acquired [the present lot] appears on the verso: in this case Alfredo Ripstein, a prestigious Mexican film director." We wish to thank Juan Carlos Pereda for his kind assistance in the cataloguing of this work. A copy of Juan Garcia Ponce's book Coleccion de Arte Prehispanico de Rufino Tamayo, published by the Misrachi Gallery in Mexico City, numbered 52 and signed by the artist, accompanies this lot.
