Very Rare Steuben Cardinal Red Dichroic Glass Plate, 1926-1928 8-3x4 inches (22.2 cm) LITERATURE: Eric F. Ericson, A Guide to Colored Steuben Glass 1903-1933, Loveland, 1963, p. 82. In the early 20th century, Steuben developed several red glass types, of which Cardinal Red - also known as Cadmium Selenium Ruby - is the most rare. The present optic ribbed plate with subtly scalloped rim shifts from translucent to opaque depending on the light source. Steuben collector Rande Bly discovered it and appeared on the PBS program Antiques Roadshow in 2014, where it was appraised at a value of $5,000-$7,000. A copy of the September 2014 issue of Antiques Roadshow Insider, in which it is featured on page 8, is included with the lot.
