This group features 8 antique newspapers dating between 1786 and 1857. The papers include: "The Independent Gazetteer: or, the Chronicle of Freedom" dated November 9, 1786; "The Weekly Museum" dated March 8, 1794; "The Democratic Press" dated September 12, 1823; "The Herald" dated October 22, 1836; "The Constitutionalist" dated July 8, 1840; "The Daily National Intelligencer" dated July 5, 1841; the "New-York Daily Tribune" dated October 19, 1842; and "The Saturday Evening Post" dated June 27, 1857.

Some notable passages include: a disturbing advertisement in "The Independent Gazetteer" of 1786 which reads "To be sold: A likely young negro wench, A registered slave, who has two male children, one four, and the other two years of age, which will be Sold with her or retained by her Master. She is a Compleat House Wench, and in perfect health, understands Cooking, Washing, Ironing, &c."; a notice in "The Democratic Press" of 1823 regarding a "Circus" performance by "Tom & Jerry or Life in London"; and a front page story about West Point printed in the 1841 issue of the "Daily National Intelligencer:"
