(97) CARVED WHALEBONE JACK STRAWS

Group of (97) Sailor-Made Whalebone Pick-up Straws, from the estate of Captain James Oxton of Rockville (Rockport), ME, captain of the ship Bediah Thayer, carved with a variety of decorative motifs -- figural, animals, weaponry, tools, etc., some colored, in an oval leather box, 3" to 4 1/4" long, box: 2" high, 7" x 3". Tip losses to a few straws, otherwise good condition. Provenance: Through family descent.
