9th C. Viking Silver Temple Rings (set of 4)

Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking / Viking Rus culture, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A lovely ensemble of four 93% to 95% silver temple rings, each made from thick hammered silver wire hoops, with threadlike silver wire wrapped in two places and a triangular silver dangler suspended between them. These would have been treasured items, worn hanging near the temples from a headband to display the wealth of their owner, a popular practice in the eastern part of the Viking world. Size of each (all are relatively similar) 1.5" Diameter (3.8 cm); (triangular danglers): 0.75" L x 0.5" W (1.9 cm x 1.3 cm); quality of silver: 93% to 95%; total weight: 19.7 grams

Condition Report: One ring does not have a triangular dangler. Otherwise the rings are intact, and the silver has developed a marvelous age patina with areas of iridescence.
