A 16-Bore Flintlock Sporting Gun For Shot Or Ball
By W.H. Wilson Of London, Circa 1815
With Spanish two-stage barrel slightly swamped towards the muzzle and with spider fore-sight framed by four silver fleur-de-lys, chiselled acanthus girdle against a punched and gilt ground and encircled by a silver band, octagonal breech (some old pitting on the bottom flats) struck with two gold-lined punzónes of Antonio Guisasola (Neue Støckel 7542, 442) and three gold-lined fleur-de-lys marks, a gold-lined cross above, all between three silver panels of foliage, blued folding leaf back-sight, platinum-lined touch-hole, tang engraved with foliage involving a Britannia shield, signed border engraved flat lock decorated with a starburst behind the rainproof pan and with a trophy on the tail, engraved 'French' cock (top jaw and screw replaced), and roller, figured half-stock with chequered grip, steel mounts comprising butt-plate engraved with a martial trophy on the heel tang, trigger-guard retaining some blueing on the inside and decorated with a martial trophy on the border engraved bow, trigger-plate with pineapple finial, vacant silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, silver fore-end cap, and brass-mounted ramrod (steel parts with some rust patination)
