The First Late 18th Century, The Second By Holt & Son, Sackville Street, London, Early 20th Century
The first with fullered blade (some pitting, old surface oil) etched and gilt against a blued ground over half its length over each side with foliage, crowned 'GR' cypher, martial trophies, royal arms and Union foliage, regulation gilt-brass hilt cast with foliage and with folding inner-guard, and grip covered in silver in imitation of twisted silver wire, in its black leather scabbard (broken, some old crazing) with linear engraved gilt-brass mounts and two rings for suspension; the second of regulation pattern and for an officer in the Royal Army Medical Corp, with etched fullered blade, brass hilt retaining some gilding and its leather sword-knot (knot detached), and wire-bound fishskin-covered grip, in its pigskin-covered field service scabbard (scuffed) with frog and straps (2)
