B.E.M. London Gazette 14 June 1945. The citation states:

'Sergeant Hogarth is employed on personnel staff duties and, for over a year, has been responsible for maintaining the Group strength in airmen. At all times the needs of the Group have been his first consideration. For long periods he has worked hours far exceeding the normal and, by his cheerful efficiency and consistent devotion to duty, has shown outstanding initiative in anticipating and preparing future demands.'

Alfred Percy Hogarth joined as an Aircraft Hand in 1940 and served at home and in the Far East and India, including Bombay and Chittagong. His B.E.M. was earned whilst serving with No. 224 Group HQ: No. 224 Group was formed in April 1942, to deal with fighter operations throughout Bengal and Assam. Reinforcements reached India throughout 1942 and the first campaign in Arakan, from December 1942 to May 1943, was supported by air attacks on Japanese troop movements and communications and supply centres. In the same period, the first Chindit expedition was kept supplied by air; Nos. 31 and 194 Squadrons flew 178 sorties by night and day and dropped 303 tons of supplies. Experiments were made and much was learned about the technique of supply-dropping that was to be of great value later in the campaign. The monsoon of 1943 curtailed operations, but expansion continued.

Hogarth was discharged in August 1945 at RAF Lyneham; sold with copied citation and biographical details.
