A 19TH C. PATRIOTIC MOTIF TATTOO DESIGN WITH WASHINGTON

The graphite drawing with red gouache highlights is one of four in this auction that originated in the sketch book of a tattoo artist identified as I. Reiquier. The group was purportedly purchased from Balish Antiques at the Madison Square Gardens Antique Show in 1956 and later, purportedly exhibited at a tattoo history exhibition at the American Folk Art Museum as entry number 61, Three Tattoo Sketches from the sketchbook of I. E. Reiquer C. 1870.

This sheet depicts the bust of George Washington in a vignette of patriotic symbols and furled flags. The name I. E. Reiquer is lower right on one of the sketches in this group.

Sight size measures 6 x 6 with a framed size of 11.25 x 9.25 inches.
