A NORTH EAST INDIAN SILVER-INLAID BRONZE FIGURE OF VISHNU, Nalanda, 9th Century The small four-armed figure cast seated in dhyana sana with right hand held in dhyana mudra, each of his four hands clutching an auspicious object, with one held above a diminutive snake as it leaps out from a jar, the face with silver-inlaid almond-shaped eyes flanking a broad nose and above pursed lips, his head surmounted by a three-pointed crown before a high chignon, all raised on a lotus base atop a square-section plinth fixed with a high flaming mandorla, the reverse bearing two inscriptions in Chinese characters along the frame 14cm high, weight approx. 344gClick here to share:
