A beautiful and rare kura (saddle) with abumi, saddle

dating: Period (1603-1867) provenance: Japan, Wooden saddle of typical shape, made of four, tied parts, visible surface decorated with golden lozenges with a cross, front and back part with a triple mon with a crane with open wings. Signed and stamped below. Complete with wooden abumi with iron frame, decorated with the same motive and mon. Lacquered in red inside. Big, oval, buckle-shaped loop, the mount pierced below. Parts of lacquer missing and small damages (kura and abumi). Beautiful saddle-pad in red cloth with big, white mon decorated in gilded thread on both sides and three flowers in high-relief with white and black petals, gilded center. Raised border covered with gilded leather. The sides decorated with wide, red fringes lined with light-brown brocade with floral motifs. Small damages and parts missing. Signs of use. Plus a decoration with bands and fringes in red cloth, decorated with sewn mounts in gilded thread. Small parts missing and signs of use. length sella 38 cm.
