A BERGAMA 'LOTTO' RUG, WEST ANATOLIA

first half 19th century, or earlier

approximately 128 by 112cm; 4ft. 2in., 3ft. 8in.

Condition Report:
Pile very good overall approx 6 mm in depth, oxidised to 4mm in the areas of dark walnut brown. Really lovely range of abrashed greens in field. Original red flatweave at both ends, now bound with woven cotton tape in ochre yellow, sides have had outer guard (probably a simple narrow band of white and dark brown) cut off. Left hand side and lower right hand side have later side-cording, upper right hand side needs securing, or a little judicious restoration to edges. Really lovely colour.
