A big ritual shamshir
dating: 19th Century provenance: Turkey, Heavy, curved, flat, single-edged blade, kilic type, decorated on both facets and through all the length with a thick plot of inscriptions in Arabic, partially collected in cartouches, all on a gilded background. Metal, cross-quillon, with engraved inscriptions as well. Iron grip, gilded and covered with inscriptions as the blade. Complete with wooden scabbard with antique covering with polychrome fabric (worn-out and with defects). Chape and cap in iron foil, richly engraved with inscriptions as the blade. One band provided with a lug, adorned en suite with other mounts (a second lug is probably missing). Certainly for ritual or Templar use. length 110 cm.
